Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 180°C (160°C for fan ovens) and line an 8×10-inch baking tin with baking paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the softened butter and caster sugar until light and fluffy. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Gradually incorporate the self-raising flour and milk until you have a smooth batter. Fold in the orange zest.
  4. Pour the batter into the prepared tin, spreading it evenly. Bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  5. Allow cooling in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  6. For the glaze, combine icing sugar, orange juice, and zest until smooth. Drizzle over the cooled cake.
