  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 and 1/2 cups warm water
  • 4 and 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 6 cups water (for boiling)
  • 2 tbsp baking soda
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • Coarse salt (for topping)
  • Everything bagel seasoning (optional)

Instructions

  1. Combine warm water, yeast, and sugar in a bowl; whisk well and let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add flour, olive oil, and salt to the yeast mixture; knead with a stand mixer or by hand for about five minutes until smooth.
  3. Place dough in an oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm area for about an hour until doubled.
  4. Punch down the dough and divide into 12 pieces. Roll each piece into an 18-24 inch rope and shape into pretzels.

  6. Brush boiled pretzels with egg wash and sprinkle with coarse salt and seasoning.
  7. Bake for about 10-11 minutes until golden brown; cool on a wire rack before serving.
