  • 3-4 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • zest from 1/2 lemon (optional)
  • 1/2 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • 2 cups cold milk

Instructions

  1. Hull and chop 6 ounces of strawberries, mash them in a bowl, and mix with sugar and optional lemon zest and juice.
  2. Transfer to a small pot, simmer over medium-low heat for 2-5 minutes until thickened into syrup.
  3. Cool the syrup to room temperature, then refrigerate for about 1 hour.
  4. Hull and dice the remaining strawberries, divide chilled syrup between glasses, add diced strawberries, and pour in cold milk.
