  • 1 loaf Pasquier Sliced Brioche (17.6 ounces)
  • 4 tablespoons butter (melted)
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 1/4 cups milk (2% or whole)
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lemon zest
  • 2 cups assorted fresh berries
  • 3/4 cup sugar (for the lemon butter sauce)
  • 6 tablespoons butter (for the lemon butter sauce)
  • 2 tablespoons water (for the lemon butter sauce)
  • 1 large egg (well beaten, for the lemon butter sauce)
  • 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice (1 large or 2 small lemons, for the lemon butter sauce)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F.
  2. Cut the brioche into 1-inch cubes and toast on a baking sheet until lightly golden.
  3. In a large bowl, combine toasted bread with melted butter.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, salt, and lemon zest until well blended.
  5. Layer half of the bread cubes in a greased baking dish, followed by half of the berries. Repeat the layers.
  6. Pour the custard mixture evenly over the layered bread and berries.
  7. Bake uncovered for 45-50 minutes until golden and set; cover with foil if browning too quickly.
  8. Let cool for at least 20 minutes before serving.
