  • 2 1/4 teaspoons (7 grams) active dry yeast
  • 3/4 cup (180 milliliters) lukewarm water
  • 4 cups (500 grams) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup (180 milliliters) lukewarm milk
  • 2 tablespoons (30 milliliters) sunflower or vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine the active dry yeast with lukewarm water and let it rest until frothy.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, and salt.
  3. Add the yeast mixture, lukewarm milk, and oil to the dry ingredients. Mix until combined into a dough.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface until soft and elastic. Place in an oiled bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled in size.
  5. Punch down the dough and let it rise again. Preheat oven to 480°F (250°C).
  6. Divide the dough into six pieces, shape them into balls, flatten into discs, and create patterns on top using a knife.
  7. Bake for 8-12 minutes until golden brown. Sprinkle with water after baking to keep them soft.
